Ewans Blog

your japanese car & parts connection
hey guys

yeah i know its about time to do another blog,
i still have our mission to the drifting at ebisu in the works ,
but as something else come up this deserved to be in front of everything else

recently we got approached by a good friend in NZ for some help “ edward wong”
a good friend of his “shaun” had a very unfortunate accident while towing his HR31
skyline to taupo race track to be tested ,  before the compliance test
what happened shocked us all ,
with out warning the van and trailer flipped writing both vehicles off,
lucky everybody involved was not seriously  hurt
check these pics out

shaun’s project was no more,  alot of his friends were saddened by this and banded together on the forums,
they started fundraising to get him a new car
within no time people had donated alot funds
shaun is blown away by the help and donations people were giving
a few companies have come on board and offered there services too,
edward asked us to help source a new car for him ,

when i learn't about this, i thought hell yeah of course we can,
helping a fellow car enthusiast is a car guys unwritten law we have ,
you help no matter what,
we searched the yahoo auctions and found a nice example in yokohama
after shaun’s approval, we quickly clicked “ buy now “  on this baby above
our plan,
1. go up to yokohama on saturday night on the bullet train
2. drive back to mount fuji ,
3. park up , sleep in the car at a local convenience store carpark till the morning
4. wake up , drive up the road to the meet the boyz at the toyota classic car meet
5. leave the meet at by 12pm
6. get back to nagoya before my wife  starts work at 4:45pm ( about 250kms )

we started off at 7:pm  jumped on the bus heading to the local train station
then caught the train to nagoya station,
before we boarded the bullet train, we got some Mac’as , hungry as
we boarded the train to find out what we ordered was wrong , not a good start

1hr 30 mins later , were at yokohama train station around 9:30  pm
after fluffing around trying to sort the right train to the area we wanted to go
confused as hell, i saw 3 american guys,  so we asked them for directions
if in doubt and you see a westerner here,  it pays to ask for there help,
or a nice looking japanese girl, as i had my wife with me i chose the westerners

after getting the right train to the proper station
we called the man with the skyline, he picked us up from the train station
he arrived in this very small K car, he was very apologetic after seeing the size of me and how small his car was ,  it was ok, fold myself up a bit and hang out the window like a dog and we are sweet
10 mins later after racing thou the yokohama tight streets we arrived at his pad ( that was fun)

the owner was such a nice guy, he runs a repair shop that is open till 2am in the morning !
he talked to as about the skyline and its small problems, nothing major to worry about
while my wife yasuyo was talking to the guys, i was inspecting the car inside and out
after inspection i was satisfied we had a good car , the condition was better than expected
i was happy so i knew the boyz in nz would be happy

we left there with hope the car was reliable and heathy, to drive back to nagoya
first stop , gas station, we put the good stuff in ( hi octane ) , as we were there
a very ecentric japanese guy came up and praised the condition of the skyline
who proceeded to order the workers to clean our windows !
off we went to fuji, the skyline was a delight to drive , purring along with no effort
suspension was a bit soft , until i discovered the suspension settings....doh !
after about 1:30 mins and 2,850 Jpy in tolls (NZD$45 ),

we arrived and found the nearest convenience store, parked up for the night,
thought we would get some sleep, yeah right
not so easy , sleeping in a car was not happening as i thought ,
very humid night, wind the windows down get a bit of air flowing thou , it was so nice
very bad move , got attacked by the huge jap mozzies , ( not my wife )
ya ganna say turn the aircon on , yeah that was broken
ended up not sleeping , watching some vids on the mac till the sun come up & battery died

i must have been on this massive buzz ,cause  i was not tired must be amping to get up to this car meet !
or it must be a toyota thing .... haha

after having a convenience store breakfast we rolled up the hill to another convenience store close to the car meet
not long after arrived we meet a couple of old datsun car owners who were first on the scene

as we were so early , we got to see everything that arrived ,
i could not believe what was arriving , it was like heaven and toyota was my god
apparently this meet , is the biggest for celica / supra and carina’s in all of japan
it was so awesome, good bunch of guys and girls , will be back next year
check out the pictures on our gallery   http://gallery.me.com/hayatonka
what a awesome day , i could not believe what i was seeing, i counted 39 celica/supras
i was buzzing hard all morning ,
talking to alot of owners many as crazy about there rides as the next owner,
me well i wanted my supra there so badly , maybe next year we will import it

we had to leave so off we went around 12pm , i was sad heading back to nagoya ,
my buzz had worn off , now feeling the effects of no sleep,  no coffee was going to help me now ,
the skyline just purred along quite happily, without a care in the world
lucky my wife had slept before, so she took over the reins of this lovely beast,
after total of 380kms we arrived back in nagoya in time for my wife to get to work ,
then i crashed and burned big time .....

before this lovely skyline is shipped to NZ ,
she will visit the Nagoya Classic car show on the 13th june
as this seems like a fitting event,
to pay respect to her friends before leaving these shores for NZ
we will take lots or pics for you guys !

update 13/07/10
well we took shaun's  skyline to this cool event , Nagoya Classic car show
managed to park the skyline next to a nice red  DR31RS
had to see his big brother before he left japan ,  we left them  to talk while i wondered around the car park to look at all the cool  cars,
the car park is just as interesting as the show, hence the  amount of pics i have took for you guys, this year the amount of  cars and people were really down,
still a good event not to be missed on my calender

check out our gallery on this cool day
hope you enjoy the pic's as much as i enjoyed the day
